New York City Wedding

Our daughter, Angela was married on Sunday, at Galapoagos Art Space in Brooklyn, NY. The venue is very unique. Austin and Ang were married on the stage which is sometimes used for performances. A friend of Austin's officiated over the ceremony.

Ang designed and fabricated her necklace. Austin created both his and Ang's wedding rings.

This is a photo of Tom and I with the happy couple.

Our daughter, Jenny was maid of honor for Ang.

Our son, Jeff did a reading during the ceremony.
It was a very happy evening for our family.
P.S. I would like to thank my sister-in-law, JoAnn, for the photos. I was too busy to take pictures and she gave me a CD with her photos.

Frog and Bunny

My daughter, Angela is a graphic designer in New York City. She is getting married soon. For her invitations, wedding website, etc., she made a family crest for herself and Austin, her fiance.

Austin is a jewelry designer, so one side of the crest has his tools. The other side has a quill to represent Ang's profession. Ang has always wanted a bunny and she and Austin have a pet frog. I used the bunny and frog at the top of the crest to make hot pads for them.

The "a" on the hot pads is from a font Ang designed when she was a student at Western Michigan University.

Instead of loops to hang the hot pads, I made a small sleeve at the top to hold a magnet. Ang suggested that to me a few years ago. The apartments are so small in NYC that there is no place to hang hot pads. If they have magnets in them, she can hang them on the front of the stove.

I also made Ang and Austin a table runner. They chose Fiestaware in a variety of colors for their dishes. I used those colors in the hot pads and table runner.

I changed the string quilt back that I showed earlier on my blog. I like the symmetric look better.

Happy Paczki Day

The Tuesday before Lent begins is Paczki day in our area. Since both Tom and I are Polish and love sweets, this is a holiday we celebrate.

We did limit ourselves to 2 paczki each. One has Bavarian creme in it.

The other has apple filling. Yum!!! Don't tell my Weight Watcher leader!

Ang lives in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. Her neighborhood is very Polish, however they celebrated Paczki Day last Thursday. Unfortunately because of the snow storm in NYC last week, Ang didn't get any paczki :(

Paisley Vest

When I was in New York last fall to help Ang shop for her wedding dress, we found some neat fabric in the garment district. I made a vest out of one of the fabrics. I may wear it to the Rehearsal Dinner.

The fabric was very hard to photograph because it has a lot of metallic gold in it. I bought the fabric thinking I would use the other side on the outside because it was more purple. The more I looked at the fabric, the more it looked like the gold with blue and purple was the right side.

I love purple and plan to wear a purple blouse with the vest.

Southwest Chicken Soup Photo

I made Dena's Southwest Chicken Soup last night. I added some southwestern corn which had black beans and peppers in it. We topped it with shredded cheddar and baked tortilla chips. Very tasty.

Southwest Chicken Soup

When our quilt club had it's sleepover, Dena made some yummy Southwest Shicken soup. She shared the recipe with me and I'm posting it for other club members.

Recipe for Southwestern Chicken soup:
Cut up onion-about 1 cup
One or two cloves of garlic chopped.
One lb of chicken breast cut into bite size pieces
One teaspoon of chilli pwd(or more if like)
One teaspoon of cumin
One quart of tomatoes
One large can of chicken broth
One can of green chilies(4oz size)-do not drain-use all of it.
Fresh cilantro or ground corriander to taste.
Simmer until done. Serve with corn chips and shredded cheese.

Feel free to change according to your taste preferance. This is also good with cornmeal muffins.

Dena also added noodles to her soup.

I'm going to make the soup tomorrow so I will post a photo then.

Valentine Hearts

I made a Valentine banner for my dining room. I checked out different designs online and put together my own pattern. I made layered hearts on different white backgrounds and sliced them and resewed them.

I used different decorative stitches on my machine to applique the hearts. I'm not good at quilting so I just stitched in the ditch around the hearts and border. In the white spaces, I quilted a varitety of hearts.

I used the leftover scraps to make a small table runner for the dining room table. We have glass on our wooden table so our table runner doubles as a large hot pad for hot dishes. I lined it with a layer of Warm and Natural and a layer of Insul-brite.
